distinctly OKLAHOMA strongly urges the continuation of the MAPS one-penny sales tax, otherwise known as MAPS 3. We feel, in our role as a progressive citizen of this community, that both previous MAPS programs have been responsible, functional successes. As explained in the article below, MAPS 3 will enhance our lifestyle and make our city more attractive for out-of-state dollars.

On the first Saturday in December, the southeastern Oklahoma township of Hugo will be filled with hundreds of families watching Santa Claus lead an extravagantly staged annual Christmas parade and, while this scene will be repeated in many Oklahoma towns, only here does Santa ring in the holidays riding – not in his sleigh – but atop a circus elephant.

There was a time when it meant something for a movie to be part of the studio system – a musical from MGM meant colorful, song-filled wonders with “more stars than there are in the heavens,” and a gangster melodrama from Warner Brothers meant Cagney, Robinson and Raft, rat-a-tat-tat dialogue and sharp black and white contrast. The breakup of the studio system stopped this kind of thing – some say to the detriment of film in general – and now every studio releases every kind of picture.
